about

When I started Aquamark back in 1993, my goal was to build a company that would help people create and enjoy their aquariums. That may sound like a pretty crazy idea for a business but I had extensive experience in the aquarium industry so I decided to give it a shot. The first problem I faced was a lack of customers. That sort of thing tends to have a negative impact on your bottom line, so when people would call and ask if we worked on ponds I'd say "of course". And when someone from Red Lobster called and asked if we set up lobster tanks, my reply was "absolutely". Eventually we had service contracts with the likes of Red Lobster, Petco, Walmart, various super market chains and several independent aquarium stores, restaurants and seafood markets. We also steadily picked up ornamental aquarium work and got hooked (no pun intended) on designing reef systems. This is what I started Aquamark for to begin with! I decided that we would be a better company if we focused solely on what we really loved doing and made the risky decision to extract Aquamark from all things not related to home and office aquariums. It was a difficult transition but helped us to get really good at our core business, creating and servicing amazing aquarium displays, in particular large reef systems.

The reason  we were able to get to where we are now is a relentless dedication to our craft, accountability and the support of our awesome customers, many of whom have been with us for 20 years. They were gracious enough to tolerate our learning curve and I'd like to close by thanking each and every one of them (you folks know who you are) for allowing us the opportunity to do what I set out to do over 20 years ago....build a company that helps people create and enjoy their aquariums.

               Thanks, Mark Adams
